Vidya’s Journey…. From Darkness to Light
Young…energetic…happy…and all the other wonderful states that only a child can be. That was Vidya, during the carefree days of her early childhood. But, when Vidya turned 12, her world took a cruel turn. With increasing complaints of fatigue, weight loss and fluctuating appetite, Vidya was diagnosed with having Type 1 Diabetes.
In just two years, even with medication and diet control, Vidya’s Diabetes spiralled out of control. And soon, her entire world started fading into a hazy darkness. By the age of 14, her family’s worst nightmare came true. Vidya became completely blind.
It was almost a year later, after knocking on several doors to no avail, that Vidya attended a free eye camp at Ranjini Eye Hospital. Immeasurably moved by her sad story, within no time at all, the entire team at REH brought her blood sugar under control and carried out cataract surgery. Phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation was done in both her eyes (with a gap of 1 week between the two surgeries) by Dr. NSD. Raju. The latest No injection, No stitch, No patch surgical procedure was done for both her eyes.
And the rest, as they say, is history. Immediately after her surgeries, Vidya regained her vision completely. Her life was transformed back into a kaleidoscope of images and colour. Vidya was able to resume her studies and her family rejoiced in the renewed light in their daughter’s life.
