REH bags NABH Accreditation
Ranjini Eye Hospital has gained national recognition for quality in healthcare and excellence in ophthalmic services. The hospital was accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) under its new standards for Small Health Care Organizations (SHCO) after rigid and strict quality assessment and audit. Ranjini Eye Hospital is the first small health care organization in the country to have received this prestigious accreditation under the NABH-SHCO standards. The hospital was accredited in September 2008 based on the recommendations of the NABH assessors after a detailed audit on June 14th and 15th.
Recently International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) has accredited “Standards for Hospitals” developed by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers. The approval of ISQua authenticates that NABH standards are in consonance with the global benchmarks set by ISQua and the hospitals accredited by NABH will have international recognition. Ranjini Eye Hospital is the first eye hospital in Kerala to get this accreditation and the second eye hospital in the country to be accredited by NABH.
The assessment and audit involves interviews with patients and staff at the healthcare facility. All patient care areas are visited by the team of assessors and audited on issues related to infrastructure, equipment, infection control etc., as required by NABH standards. It also looks into great detail the credentials of the medical and paramedical team at the hospital. The standards focus more on patient safety, patient and family rights, hospital infection control and continuous quality improvement. Therefore the accreditation results in high quality of care that matches international standards, excellent patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes.
An achievement of such big proportion could not have been possible but for the relentless and selfless efforts and encouragement of many individuals. I would like to place on record our heartfelt gratitude to the following persons and organizations that made this rare feat possible:

- Our patients – the confidence and trust they have placed upon us has been a motivation for us to do better…always
- Dr. B K Rana Dy Director, NABH for giving us the confidence to go ahead with NABH accreditation

“Working for NABH was a great experience. We learnt a lot from the interactions we had with Dr. Murali Srinivas and Dr. Antony Bazile. We also enjoyed great support and encouragement from Mr. Parameswaran and Mr. Erwin Peter of Zandig. REH has always kept patient’s interest and safety beyond anything else in the hospital. We are extremely glad that we were able to complete our final audit with NABH successfully. It is a great achievement for us – we have proven that we are capable of attaining excellent international standards. It is also a great achievement for QCI – Small health care organizations like ours will definitely be more motivated to strive for NABH standards…….”
