Shri.P.V.Narayanan Center for Micro Incision Cataract Surgery
There are many options when it comes to dealing with opacification of the lens, a condition called cataract. The safest and best procedure is phacoemulsification. In this procedure the cataractous lens is emulsified by using ultrasonic energy. The semi solid material that results from the emulsification is aspirated out through an incision less than 3mm. This procedure allows the surgeon to perform cataract surgery safely. Ranjini Eye Care has the latest and best machines to perform phacoemulsification procedures.

No Injection. No Stitch and No Patch Cataract Surgery
REC is one of the few centers in India performing no injection, no stitch and no patch surgery. This is possible due to the incorporation of the latest technique currently available in the world. The Series Twenty Thousand Legacy (STTL) phacoemulsifier with Advantec technology and Neosonix incorporated in it is the best phacoemulsifier in the world at present with the latest technology and hardware. The Adventec technology allows the surgeon to have greater control over the surgery.

Neosonix is a novel technique where in the cataract can be emulsified with very low amount of ultrasonic energy, thus protecting the intraocular structures from damage due to excess energy and turbulence. At this center the preferred intraocular lens is an Acrylic foldable lens, the most inert and biocompatible lens available.

This is naturally the best choice especially in patients with retinal disorders. The incision placement is also decided by corneal topography. The topography-guide incision placement allows the surgeon to have excellent control over the curvature changes on the cornea. As the cornea is most important refractive element of the eye, this method of incision placement results in favorable refraction after surgery. This centre has also to its credit the maximum number of bifocal intraocular lens implantations. As the surgery is done with out stitches through a small incision and without patching the eye, the patient walks out of the hospital immediately after the surgery. We employ the most modern sophisticated operating microscope Zeiss Visu 150 for the operation.

Smt. Meenakshiamma Centre for Vitreoretinal Diseases

Retinal diseases are on the increase. These complex diseases require complicated surgical procedures. At Smt.Meenakshiamma center for vitreoretinal diseases, patients with retinal diseases are offered the latest treatment options using the best facilities. This involves the latest diagnostic modalities for evaluation of retinal diseases and the surgical set-up which is state of the art technology. The center also houses a diabetic retinopathy clinic and retinopathy of prematurity clinic. The emphasis of these clinics is on early diagnosis and prompt management.

The surgical facilities for vitreoretinal procedures include the most advanced and complete surgical system called ACCURUS. The ACCURUS, is an intelligent system with multiple microprocessor driven parameters for delicate control during the surgical procedures. The binocular indirect operating microscope attachment offers wide-angle view of the retina and thus enables the surgeon to do a complete and thorough surgical procedure. The center uses the state-of-the-art vitrectomy techniques for advanced diabetic retinopathy, macular hole surgery and retinal detachment.

Smt.Bharati Centre for Glaucoma and Retina Research

The corner stone of progress in medical science is research. Glaucoma and retinal disorders pose a significant challenge in diagnosis as well as management. Smt. Bharati Gopalan center for glaucoma and retina research aims to understand the various aspects of diseases. The cener now has the latest diagnostic equipment for the detection and follow up early glaucoma and macular diseases. This research center is now equipped with latest diagnostic tools.

Shri. K.S. Gopalan centre of Visual Rehabilitation

A visual rehabilitation and Low Vision Aid Centre has also been set up for helping patients with significant untreatable / permanent loss of vision. The centre is equipped with special optical aids to improve vision in patients with Age related Macular Degeneration. Hereditary Macular diseases, Macular hole, Retinitis pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy etc. The corneal Transplantation Centre has facilities for modern Keratoplasty for patients with corneal blindness from scarred cornea from infections, injury and hereditary diseases.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

The OCT is a must for a retina center for the precise documentation of diabetic mascular edema, macular hole and various macular diseases. The OCT can also be used to document and follow up optic nerve head morphology and nerve fiber thickness in glaucoma patients. Being a non invasive and patient friendly procedure. All patients are comfortable during the examination.

Octopus 311 Automated Perimeter

The perimeter examines the visual fields of the patients. It is the most important too for the glaucoma diagnosis and research. It also has the capability to diagnose neurological defects. Being computerized it has many options which allow for early detection of glaucomatous field defects. In addition it has the most advanced options of blue on yellow perimetry and flicker perimetry.

Digital Fundus photography and angiography

The Topcon fundus camera TRC 50EX along with the Nikkon D-100 digital camera and IMAGEnet 2000 system serves as a useful tool for documentation and diagnosis of retinal diseases. The archiving capability of the digital system is an added asset for good photo documentation. In addition to performing angiography to diagnose various retinal conditions, the equipment also serves for diagnosis of nerve fiber defects in glaucoma patients.
